Anglerfish Known for its nightmarish appearance, the anglerfish has a bioluminescent lure that dangles from its head to attract prey in the pitch-black depths.

Gulper Eel This bizarre eel has an enormous mouth that can swallow prey much larger than itself, and its long, snake-like body adds to its creepy appearance.

Sea Spider With long, spindly legs and  a tiny body, sea spiders look  like something out of a nightmare. They are  actually marine arthropods, not true spiders.

Harp Sponge This deep-sea sponge resembles a lyre or harp and uses its vertical branches to capture tiny crustaceans. Its unusual shape and feeding strategy are both eerie and fascinating.

Zombie Worm (Osedax) These worms feed on the bones of dead whales on the ocean floor. They secrete acid to bore into bones and extract nutrients, giving them a macabre feeding habit.

Sloane’s Viperfish This fish has a large mouth  filled with long, needle-like  teeth that can be seen even  when its mouth is closed. It  uses bioluminescence to attract prey.

Giant Isopod Resembling a giant pill bug,  these crustaceans can grow  up to 30 cm (12 inches) in  length. Their large size and armored appearance make  them look quite creepy.

Barreleye Fish This fish has a transparent head, through which its tubular eyes can be seen. The eyes can rotate to look upward or forward, adding to its bizarre appearance.
